Louisville gas prices dip, but rebound may be coming

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Gas prices in Louisville have dropped nearly 18 cents per gallon over the past week, but experts warn the relief could be short-lived.

According to GasBuddy, prices have declined in 48 states in recent days, bringing the national average to just under $4 per gallon.

As of Monday, Louisville’s average gas price stood at $3.95. That remains 17.5 cents higher than a month ago and $1.12 more than this time last year, GasBuddy reported.

Across Kentucky, the statewide average sits at $3.87, down 14 cents from last week.

However, analysts say the recent dip may not last due to ongoing tensions involving Iran.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said oil prices jumped Sunday night after Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz and President Donald Trump warned of further escalation if no agreement is reached.

“With global oil flows remaining at risk, renewed volatility is taking hold, and the continued back-and-forth is making any lasting resolution increasingly fragile,” De Haan said.

“As a result, gasoline prices are likely to rise again in the coming days, with diesel expected to follow if disruptions continue. Many states that experience price cycling could see increases within the next 24 to 48 hours,” he added.
