Louisville drivers should prepare for overnight closures at the I-65 and I-264 interchange this week as construction ramps up for the I-65 Central Corridor Project.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Drivers in Louisville can expect overnight travel disruptions this week at the I-65 and I-264 interchange as crews get ready for construction related to the I-65 Central Corridor Project.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Department, closures will take place Monday and Tuesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The ramp from northbound I-65 to eastbound I-264 will be closed, along with the Preston Highway on-ramp to eastbound I-264 near Durrett Lane.
Additional lane restrictions are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. These include a southbound I-65 lane closure between the westbound I-264 exit ramp and the on-ramp to eastbound I-264. Lane closures and shifts will also impact both directions of I-264 at ramps connecting to southbound I-65.
KYTC said the work will allow for temporary ramp widening aimed at easing congestion ahead of a planned I-65 closure in June. Five miles of the interstate between the Watterson Expressway and downtown will reopen on Aug. 1.
No closures are planned from April 24 through May 3 due to increased traffic related to the Kentucky Derby.
Drivers are urged to use caution in work zones, follow posted signs, and consider navigation apps for updated routing information.
