Bullitt County plans to open a new driver licensing office in Shepherdsville by the end of the year to support its growing population.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Residents in Bullitt County will soon have easier access to driver licensing services without needing to travel far.

Local officials say a new regional driver licensing office is expected to open in Shepherdsville before the end of the year, helping meet demand as the county continues to grow rapidly.

The office will operate out of the former Ridgway Memorial Library building on Walnut Street, repurposing a well-known community space.

The project is funded through the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s recently approved budget, which allocates nearly $37 million over the next three fiscal years to expand regional licensing services. In addition to Bullitt County, new offices are planned in Barren and Oldham counties.

Bullitt County Judge Executive Jerry Summers said the investment comes at an important time.

“It’s an opportunity that we absolutely relish to have,” Summers said. “We are a growing community, one of the fastest growing in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and it’s a real need.”

Officials anticipate the new office will open later this year, providing more convenient access to driver licensing services for local residents.
