Strong winds swept through the Louisville area Sunday, knocking down trees and power lines and leaving thousands of residents without electricity.

According to the LG&E outage map, more than 2,400 customers in Jefferson County were still without power as of 10 p.m. Earlier in the day, outages had affected more than 9,000 customers.

Across the Ohio River in southern Indiana, the impact was smaller. Duke Energy reported that about 17 customers remained without power by 10 p.m.

Much of the region was under a High Wind Warning until 8 p.m. Sunday, with sustained winds between 30 and 40 mph and gusts reaching up to 60 mph.

After that warning expired, a Wind Advisory was scheduled to remain in effect from 8 p.m. Sunday until 8 a.m. Monday. During that time, winds are expected to range from 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph.
