Bluegrass Parkway has shut down following a crash involving two tractor-trailers.
ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (WKYT) – UPDATE: According to KSP, crews have reopened all lanes of the Bluegrass Parkway in both eastbound and westbound directions.
ORIGINAL: An injury crash involving two tractor-trailers has shut down Bluegrass Parkway at the seven-mile marker.
Kentucky State Police advised drivers to avoid the area and take an alternate route. Officials also said the eastbound on-ramp to the parkway from I-65 is blocked.
Westbound lanes of Bluegrass Parkway remain open but traffic is reduced to one lane.
According to KSP, Kentucky State Police troopers responded to the collision around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 16.
A preliminary investigation shows the driver of the first tractor-trailer attempted an illegal U-turn using an emergency turnaround while trying to head westbound.
KSP reported that the first driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
The driver of the second tractor-trailer attempted to avoid the first vehicle but struck it and did not suffer any injuries.
KSP said one tractor-trailer was completely destroyed after catching fire, while the second overturned in the westbound lanes.
As of 6 a.m., officials expected the roadway to remain closed for another hour while emergency crews recovered the tractor-trailers and cleared spilled diesel fuel.
KSP confirmed the crash is still under investigation.
