LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Our weather pattern stays fairly calm over the next few days, but it turns wet this weekend as a storm system moves in. This setup feels more like March and will likely stick around through the rest of February.
Watch for black ice this morning as temperatures sit in the 20s across many areas. Highs climb into the 40s this afternoon for most of the state, with a mix of clouds and sunshine. A slight chance of a light shower exists in the western and south-central parts of the state.
Friday looks pleasant, with temperatures reaching 50 or higher across most of Kentucky. Clouds will increase later in the day ahead of the incoming weekend storm system. Low pressure will track from Texas to the Carolinas from Valentine’s Day into Sunday. That path typically brings winter weather to Kentucky, but with no cold air to the north, it will fall as rain instead.
Locally heavy rainfall appears likely, especially across the southern half of the state.
A strong case of spring fever arrives behind this system next week. It may be a false spring, but I’ll take any hint of spring this time of year.
Temperatures could reach 70 next week.
