LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bitter cold and dangerous wind chills have settled across Kentucky and southern Indiana this week following the winter storm. Temperatures in the Louisville area aren’t expected to rise above freezing until early February, so residents are urged to take precautions for their health, homes, and pets.

Operation White Flag activates when temperatures drop below 35°F:

Wayside Christian Mission: 432 E. Jefferson St., open to men, women, and families. First come, first served. Capacity: 200 (100 mats).

Salvation Army: 911 S. Brook St., open to men and women. Check-in: women 5:30 p.m., men 6 p.m. Capacity: 10 beds each. Day shelter: Mon–Fri, 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Meals provided.

Pets and the Cold
