LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Even without record-breaking totals, steady snowfall made travel difficult across Louisville on Sunday as plows struggled to keep up with new accumulation and major roadways remained slick.
“It’s really hard to keep the roads clear,” said Brad Gleason, who spent years in Erie, Pennsylvania, and is familiar with harsh winter weather. “This is a traditional low-level snowstorm for Erie,” he said, noting that constant snowfall can still create dangerous conditions, especially for windshields and two-wheel-drive vehicles.
Crews worked throughout the city, but fresh snow quickly covered treated pavement. Dixie Highway appeared heavily snow-covered, and Broadway posed challenges for low-clearance vehicles. Bardstown Road was partially cleared and partially slushy, while many side streets were better suited for short walks than driving.
One resident said, “It’s kind of fun actually. The dog loves it. It’s a good change of scenery. Just enjoying it. Hope it doesn’t last too long, though.”
Cold temperatures and ongoing snowfall are expected to linger, keeping drivers cautious and crews busy.
Although no snowfall records were set, the conditions still left an impression on some residents.
“The first snowstorm in my life! It’s nice! I like it!” said Alexander Silveire of Brazil.
As snow continues to fall, officials are urging residents to drive carefully, give themselves extra time, and avoid unnecessary travel while plows and salt trucks continue working to improve road conditions.
