LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Georgia man is in custody after a high-speed chase in southern Indiana with two children in the vehicle.

The Indiana State Police (ISP) said the incident occurred Saturday around 6:30 p.m. on southbound Interstate 65 north of Sellersburg. A trooper conducting traffic patrol clocked a blue Jeep Cherokee at 115 mph in a 70 mph zone. When the trooper attempted a traffic stop, the Jeep, driven by 35-year-old Michael Anthony Tapia of Georgia, fled at high speed.

Tapia exited at Sellersburg, ran a stop sign, and drove recklessly around other vehicles before returning to I-65 northbound. He eventually pulled over and was arrested.

During the traffic stop, two children were found in the car. ISP confirmed the children were returned safely to their mother in central Indiana.

Tapia faces charges of reckless driving and resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, a felony. He is being held in the Clark County Jail.
