A 19-year-old who is unlawfully in the United States has been taken into custody after a woman was found stabbed to death and doused in gasoline near her car in Great Falls earlier this week.
Fairfax County police said Alexis Antonio Cedillos-Campos, 19, was detained in connection with the homicide of Carmen Lizet Puch, 42.
The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed to 7News that Cedillos-Campos is Salvadoran. He was apprehended by border patrol agents in April 2024 after unlawfully crossing into the United States near El Paso, Texas, under the Biden administration. According to DHS, he was eventually released and allowed to return to the country.
Biden and Mayorkas personally brought suspected killer Cedillos-Campos to the streets of Fairfax County. They carelessly let millions of unvetted illegal aliens into American neighborhoods, abusing the law,” the Department of Homeland Security informed 7News.
During a news conference on Wednesday, authorities provided further information about Puch, her death, and her relationship with Cedillos-Campos.
Puch, a mother of a 3-year-old girl, is from Reston, Virginia.
A jogger discovered Puch shortly before 7 a.m. Monday in the parking lot of Difficult Run Park on Georgetown Pike and Old Dominion Drive, near her 2011 Honda Civic. Police reported that woman had many stab wounds and had been sprayed in gas.”No one deserves to be treated the way our victim was,” Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis stated. “The way that she was treated by this killer was reprehensible, to say the least.”
Detectives gathered evidence and conducted interviews, and within 48 hours, Cedillos-Campos was identified as a suspect. Police said Cedillos-Campos and Puch were coworkers at a restaurant and had an intimate relationship. We are still discovering the multiple layers of motivation that occur when two people are in a relationship, and where another relationship may also exist,” Davis added.
Investigators said Cedillos-Campos stole a big fixed-blade knife, gloves, and a water bottle from his workplace. According to police, he later stole fuel from his motorcycle, emptying the water bottle and refilling it with gas.
Cedillos-Campos and Puch went to Difficult Run Park, where detectives believe he repeatedly stabbed Puch. He then allegedly sprayed her with gasoline and tried to set her on fire, but failed.
Cedillos-Campos was arrested in Maryland and charged with second-degree murder. The United States Marshals Service and the Prince George’s County Police Department aided in the arrest.
Officials continue to investigate what caused the fatal stabbing. They are still looking for a black car that Cedillos-Campos may have driven to and from the site.
Police believe Cedillos-Campos has no link to Puch’s kid and is not her real father. The child is looked for by Puch’s relatives.
Anyone who witnessed something in the vicinity or possesses surveillance footage from about the time of the killing is asked to call Fairfax County police at 1-866-411-8477.
