A 12-year-old was detained Wednesday in connection with a Northeast D.C. shooting that killed a 13-year-old, authorities said.
The incident took place on July 11 at 8:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of Rosedale Street, Northeast. Officers arrived to the area after receiving reports of a man down and discovered 13-year-old Ahmad Mims on a nearby sidewalk with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators suspect the shooting occurred inside a residence on Rosedale Street. The circumstances preceding Mims’ shooting and death were captured on video.
On Wednesday, a 12-year-old child from the Northeast was arrested and accused of voluntary manslaughter while armed, police said.
According to Mims’ grandmother, the 13-year-old got into a quarrel at school the week before the shooting. She suspects the guy returned with a gun, although the police have not confirmed this.
A GoFundMe effort has also been launched to support Mims’ family. Donations can be made directly on the fundraiser page.
