FRANKFORT, Ky. (KT) – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has distributed more than $104 million to Kentuckians affected by three federally declared disasters caused by severe weather this year.
From the February storms, FEMA approved over $66.7 million in housing and other assistance for 7,386 households. Following the April storms and flooding, more than $34.1 million went to 3,766 households. Another $3.6 million was awarded to 612 households after the May tornado outbreak.
Although the registration deadlines for all three disasters have passed, FEMA says applications are still being processed daily.
If you applied for assistance, you may receive calls or texts from unfamiliar numbers. These could be FEMA representatives needing to schedule inspections or request more information. Not returning the call could delay your application. For questions, call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362.
Survivors who received two months of rental assistance may qualify for Continued Temporary Housing Assistance if they are still unable to return home due to flooding, storms, or tornado damage. Contact the FEMA Helpline to learn more.
Applicants should also have received a letter by mail or email explaining their application status, the amount of assistance granted, and any next steps, such as inspections or document submissions. If you have not received a letter, call the Helpline to confirm your address.
FEMA will close its Disaster Recovery Centers at Somerset Community College’s London campus and the Pike County Public Library in Pikeville this weekend. Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, the final day.
