FRANKLIN COUNTY, KY – Sheriff Dwayne F. Depp announced the arrest of a suspect involved in a scam targeting an elderly resident by impersonating a federal law enforcement officer.

The investigation began after the victim reported being contacted by individuals claiming to be Federal Trade Commission (FTC) agents. The suspects falsely told the victim that his financial accounts were under investigation and would be frozen unless he withdrew $30,000 in cash. The victim was instructed to deliver the money at the end of his driveway, where a suspect posing as an FTC agent collected it.

After the incident, the victim’s son contacted the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, which set up a sting operation. On September 11, 2025, at around 3:43 p.m., a suspect arrived at the residence in a black BMW without a license plate. As he attempted to collect another package, deputies identified themselves, and the suspect fled but was apprehended shortly afterward nearby.

Harshit Singh was taken into custody and questioned. He stated he had recently arrived in the U.S. from India on a Canadian work visa and was instructed by associates to pick up money in Kentucky. He admitted using a friend’s vehicle and removing the license plate prior to the pickup. A search revealed an identification card for “Private Security and Investigative Services.”

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who has experienced a similar scam is urged to contact Detective Watson at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office at (502) 875-8740.
