Three Mercer County School District employees, including the superintendent, have been arrested for allegedly illegally accessing student medical records.

According to an email from Mercer County State’s Attorney Grace Simpson, the Aledo Police Department investigated complaints that district staff had accessed student medical records without authorization. On September 24, officers executed search warrants at Mercer County High School in Aledo and the district office in Joy, with help from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department. Electronic devices were seized as evidence.

Amberly Norton, 41, and Andrea Long, 41, both employees of the district, were taken into custody. Investigators determined that a separate individual had also illegally accessed student medical records.

Timothy Farquer, 53, superintendent of the Mercer County School District, was also arrested.

The State’s Attorney’s Office charged Norton and Long with unauthorized access to medical records and computer tampering, both Class A misdemeanors, as well as official misconduct, a Class 4 felony. Farquer faces the same charges. All three are being held at Mercer County Jail pending their initial court appearance.
