LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A married couple from London, Ky., plans to give back to their community after winning $1.5 million on a $20 “Wild Cash” 200X scratch-off ticket.

The husband, a longtime lottery player who usually buys $10 tickets, purchased the winning ticket from a vending machine at the Git N Go on East Laurel Road. After scratching the first row, he thought it was a mistake and checked the numbers several times before realizing he had won the top prize.

“I became a nervous wreck trying to find a safe place for the ticket,” he said, joking about possible mishaps like fire, theft, or rubbing the numbers off. The couple eventually claimed their prize in Louisville, choosing the $1,025,000 lump sum, which came to $738,000 after taxes.

The couple plans to pay off their home and car and consider retirement, but they also intend to give back to people in London.

“I promised the Lord that if I ever won big, I would help the elderly and children,” the husband said, sharing plans to anonymously pay for meals for seniors or buy toys for children.

“We’re actually going to just live how we’ve been living, but with the ability to help others,” he added.
