A woman’s body was discovered on the shoulder of Interstate 295 near Benning Road NE around 5:17 a.m. Sunday, according to DC police.
D.C. Fire and EMS pronounced her deceased on the scene.
Investigators are seeking to determine the cause of death, but authorities have yet to say whether foul play is suspected in the active investigation.
All northbound lanes of I-295 at Benning Road were temporarily closed, and traffic was routed to the Pennsylvania Avenue exit, but they have since reopened.
