A man was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) outside of a Mexican restaurant in Downtown Jersey City yesterday afternoon.
“Following yesterday’s ICE arrest in Jersey City, my staff and I have been in contact with the family and pressed officials for information.” Let’s be clear: ICE’s relentless targeting of our neighbors does nothing to make our communities safer,” said U.S. Rep. Rob Menendez (D-8) on social media late today.
“I urge every resident to understand their rights while dealing with ICE. If you require immediate assistance or have an immigration issue, please call our office at http://menendez.house.gov. We are here to assist you, support our neighbors, and safeguard our neighborhoods while we work to abolish ICE.”
ICE officials were seen outside Tacos Victoria at 324 1/2 7th St. on Saturday around 4:40 p.m., according to an Instagram story uploaded by Spirit of Liberation Jersey City. Videos of the arrest show a man dressed in a pink t-shirt and black track pants with a green stripe being taken out of a white automobile by five ICE agents before being thrown in a black vehicle and driven away.
