Montgomery County native Lisa Loeb was a big winner on Celebrity Wheel of Fortune this past week, dominating the game and earning nearly $300,000 for charity.
Loeb competed in Season 7, Episode 3 of the ABC game show, alongside Kimberly Perry and Ally Brooke. Her winnings benefited SCOPE (Summer Camp Opportunities Promote Education), a nonprofit that funds overnight summer camps for children from low-income communities.”Spoiler alert… I won big!” Loeb wrote after the episode, saying she was thrilled to support SCOPE and its purpose.
Loeb was born in Bethesda on March 11, 1968, when her father was pursuing medical training in the region. Her family relocated to Dallas, Texas, when she was very young, but Loeb has previously stated that she feels a connection to Montgomery County as a result of her early years there.
Loeb revealed her Bethesda roots in a 2017 interview with WTOP before performing with Paula Cole at AMP by Strathmore at Pike & Rose. “My dad’s a doctor and he was doing some training there in Bethesda, so that’s where I was born,” Loeb stated. “I have a faint memory of allergies and cherry blossoms in D.C. But I was around 2 years old. But I can’t stop myself from feeling a connection with it. “That is where I was born!”
Loeb is a Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter who rose to prominence throughout the 1990s. Her breakthrough single, “Stay (I Missed You),” which appeared in the 1994 film Reality Bites, peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 while Loeb was still unsigned to a record label. She went on to create the gold-certified albums Tails and Firecracker, as well as songs like “Do You Sleep?” and “I Do.”
Loeb later achieved success in children’s music, receiving a Grammy Award for Best Children’s Album in 2018 for Feel What U Feel. Her career has also encompassed television and film work, an eyewear business, and broadcasting, including time as a SiriusXM anchor.
Loeb’s Celebrity Wheel of Fortune episode is now accessible on Hulu.
