A 33-year-old Hialeah man has won a $2 million top prize after purchasing a winning scratch-off ticket at a local gas station, the Florida Lottery announced.
Alberto Medina Rodriguez returned his winning Double Diamond Cashword ticket to the agency’s Miami District Office on June 18. Rather than making annual payments, Medina Rodriguez chose a one-time lump-sum distribution of $1,189,600.
According to records, he bought the ticket at Caraf Oil, which is located at 6151 N.W. 32nd Avenue in Miami.
Double Diamond Cashword costs $10 per ticket and includes three unique play grids, as well as special diamond icons that double prize amounts. According to the Florida Lottery, the game has an overall winning chance of 1 in 3.24, with more than 7.2 million winning tickets printed and over $170.5 million in total cash prizes available throughout the run.
The state lottery office stated that it returns 99 percent of its earnings to the Florida economy in the form of prize payouts, retailer commissions to over 13,600 firms, and transfers to state educational programs.
Since its inception in 1988, the Florida Lottery has paid out more than $110 billion in wins, created over 4,900 millionaires, and donated more than $51 billion to public education, including financing the Bright Futures Scholarship Program for over a million students.
