A Texas man was critically injured Sunday after a driver headed the wrong way on I-75 slammed nearly head-on into the vehicle he was riding in, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Two other people were taken to local hospitals as a result of the incident, which occurred in Sumter County along the Florida Turnpike.
According to an FHP announcement, about 4:30 a.m., a 22-year-old Ocala man was driving south in the northbound lane when he collided with a northbound vehicle around mile marker 327.
The hit car was driven by a 57-year-old woman from Texas.
Both drivers sustained significant injuries.
According to an FHP official, the location of the wrong-way driver entering the interstate in the wrong lane is unknown at this time.
The crash is now being investigated.
