Man accused of hitting 147 mph on Interstate 395 in Putnam

State police said they measured a man driving at 147 mph on Interstate 395 in Putnam Wednesday night.

They identified him as 19-year-old Orlando Perez from Groton.

Around 9 p.m., troopers reported a serjeant conducting motor vehicle enforcement on I-395 south near exit 46. According to authorities, the serjeant observed a BMW M3 driving at an excessively high pace.

They claimed a laser unit detected the vehicle travelling at 147 mph in a 65 mph zone.

The serjeant caught up with the motorist and executed a traffic stop at Danielson’s exit 43.

Perez was brought into jail at that point.

State police charged him with reckless driving.

He was freed on a $1,000 non-surety bond and assigned a court date of October 21 in Danielson.
