16-year-old dies after being found shot near Grant Park skate park

A 16-year-old was shot and killed Wednesday night near a busy section of Grant Park, drawing a large police response as hundreds of fans left a sold-out Inter Miami-Chicago Fire soccer match at nearby Soldier Field.

Just after 9 p.m., the boy was found in the 1100 block of South Michigan Avenue with a gunshot wound to the neck, according to police. He was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition and later pronounced dead.

Photos and video from the scene showed multiple ambulances and police cars in the area as pedestrians passed by, with the Grant Skate Park cordoned off.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately known. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
