Two women were killed Tuesday morning when a tractor-trailer overturned onto a car on Interstate 78 in Newark, New Jersey State Police said.
At 9:08 a.m., troopers responded to a crash on I-78 East near milepost 56.8 in the local lanes.
According to preliminary investigation, a Mack tractor pulling a utility trailer was driving eastbound when it came with a Chevrolet sedan stopped in traffic in the left lane.
According to state police, the Mack driver attempted to veer around the stopped Chevrolet, but the truck overturned over the car.
The Chevrolet driver, 42-year-old Ayesha Wright of Newark, and her passenger, 25-year-old Kendra Rouse of Newark, were killed.
The tractor-trailer driver suffered minor injuries.
The collision triggered lane closures and delays on I-78 East Tuesday morning.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
