Woman and 15-year-old boy die at hospital after DUII rollover crash on I-84

A young woman and a teenage boy have died from injuries sustained in a rollover crash that happened last week in Umatilla County, according to Oregon State Police.

The crash occurred on eastbound Interstate 84 around milepost 207 on Thursday, July 16, just before 8:30 a.m. According to OSP, a gray Dodge Durango carrying a utility trailer veered off the road, rolled many times, and caught fire.

During the crash, three people were ejected – 24-year-old Vancouver resident Abigail Renee Pangelinann Mendiola, a 15-year-old boy, and a 9-month-old boy. The three were taken to hospitals in Oregon and Washington.

The OSP said on Sunday, July 19, that Pangelinann Mendiola and the teenage boy died as a result of their injuries. The teenage boy’s identity was not revealed.

OSP did not give an update on the baby’s current condition.

Cullen Michael Derr, 38, of Battle Ground, was arrested following the crash and charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, three counts of reckless endangering another person, and three counts of third-degree assault.

It is yet unknown whether he will face additional charges.
