The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reports that two young people were killed in a head-on crash near Jefferson early Wednesday morning.
Around 12 a.m., deputies responded to a two-car accident in the 14000 block of Marion Road Northeast, between Jefferson-Marion Road and Marion Hill Road. According to the sheriff’s office, an investigation shows that a Kia crossed the lines and crashed with a Volkswagen Passat head-on.
Both drivers died on the scene. The sheriff’s office identified the suspects as a 16-year-old girl and Blaik Peruchetti, 22. The teenage girl’s name was not revealed.
Marion Road was closed for several hours while the Marion County CRASH Team worked on the scene.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
“The death of two young lives is a tragedy that affects not just their families and friends, but also the entire community. Our thoughts go out to everyone who knew and loved them during this extremely difficult time. We ask the community to keep their families in their thoughts as they deal with this unspeakable tragedy,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
