Police: Monroe Man Arrested After His Dog Was Discovered Dead In Vehicle

Authorities have arrested a man after a dog was discovered dead in a parked, locked vehicle on Wednesday night in Monroe, Michigan.

The Monroe Police Department stated that it collaborated with Monroe County Animal Control on the investigation, and the case has been forwarded to the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Around 11 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to an animal welfare call in the city’s 800 block of Smith Street. They discovered a dead dog inside the parked vehicle and concluded that it had been left unattended in the closed vehicle.

The animal was owned by a 34-year-old Monroe man, who was arrested on Thursday with a warrant for third-degree animal killing/torture. He was brought to the Monroe County Jail for arraignment in First District Court in Monroe.

“As temperatures climb, the Monroe Public Safety Department advises everyone that automobiles can get dangerously hot in minutes, even if the outside temperature appears moderate,” the police department stated. “Never leave children or pets unattended inside a car. “Cracking windows and parking in the shade do little to keep interior temperatures from reaching life-threatening levels.”

According to Michigan law, pet owners must provide sufficient care for their animals or face criminal charges if they place them in unsafe settings. “Remember to always take children and pets with you when leaving your vehicle,” police said.

If you observe a child or animal alone and in trouble inside a car, call 911 immediately, according to authorities.
