Unlicensed Guatemalan detained while driving in southern end of The Villages

A native of Guatemala who has lived in Florida for five years was detained for driving without a license in the Village of Edenfield.

Gabriel Santos Ramirez Jacinto, 29, of Lady Lake, was driving along 6600 Caudill Trail in the southern section of The Villages when he was stopped by a Wildwood police officer at 7:43 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department, the officer initiated the traffic stop after discovering that the registered owner of the vehicle did not have a valid Florida driver’s license and that several individuals associated with the tag had outstanding warrants.

Communicating through a translator app and broken English, Ramirez Jacinto admitted to police that he did not have a driver’s license and knew he should not be driving. He informed officers that he had been living and working in Florida for the past five years and had been hired by a local company for the previous year. He’s originally from Huehuetenango, Guatemala.

He was taken into custody on a charge of operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. He was booked at Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting a $500 bond.
