Columbia men sentenced for break-ins, illegal firearm possession

Damion Walker, 25, and Malcolm Price, 38, both from Columbia, were sentenced to federal prison for being felons in possession of firearms.

According to information gathered throughout the inquiry, Price and Walker were on the University of South Carolina campus when many automobiles were broken into during a performance at Colonial Life Arena.

An officer with the University of South Carolina Police Department (USCPD) patrolled the area near the arena and saw Walker and Price near a vehicle with a broken window. When the police entered the parking lot to investigate, Price drove them away.

USCPD officers subsequently stopped the vehicle and discovered Price and Walker in possession of four weapons, a window punch tool, and various personal items stolen from multiple vehicles. Further investigation by USCPD revealed that Price, Walker, and a co-conspirator went to numerous parking spots around the Colonial Life Arena, broke into multiple vehicles, and stole firearms and other personal things from concertgoers.

Price had previous convictions for strong-arm robbery and second-degree domestic abuse, but Walker had past convictions for refusal to stop at a red light, as well as repeated convictions for breaking into motor vehicles and grand larceny of $10,000 or more. These convictions barred them from carrying weapons under federal law.

United States District Judge Sherri A. Lydon sentenced Walker to 27 months imprisonment, to be followed by a three-year term of court-ordered supervision. Judge Lydon sentenced Price to 70 months in jail, followed by two years of court-ordered monitoring. There is no parole in the federal system.
