Hospital employee arrested for racking up $24,000 in personal charges on company credit card, cops say

A 39-year-old hospital employee faces significant charges for allegedly using a company credit card for personal purchases.

On Wednesday, Hialeah police officers arrested Jose Miguel Penenori outside Larkin Community Hospital, 1475 W. 49th Pl., in South Miami.

According to Penenori’s arrest record, the hospital’s vice president of support services contacted police after discovering what officers described as “misappropriation of company funds by employee Jose Penenori” with a hospital-issued Home Depot commercial credit card.

During their investigation, authorities said they reviewed copies of credit card statements, receipts, invoices, and other documents, as well as surveillance video, and concluded that Penenori had used the credit card to purchase personal merchandise mixed with legitimate company-related purchases from Home Depot over a period of several years.

According to police, Penenori of Lehigh Acres bought himself home items, gift cards, and a BBQ grill.

Ultimately, investigators stated that Penenori “engaged in a continuing pattern of unauthorized purchases using company funds for personal benefit,” with the illegal transactions totaling almost $24,000.

According to his arrest paperwork, Penenori provided detectives with a full confession after being taken into prison.

According to jail records, Penenori is facing felony charges of organized fraud involving more than $20,000 but less than $50,000, second-degree grand theft, and fraudulent use of a credit card in excess of $100.

As of Thursday morning, the Cuban citizen was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with a bond of “to be set.”

Penenori will not be welcomed back to work after being released from jail, according to authorities, who say the hospital obtained a trespass order to keep him off the property.
