While many Powerball players like to play specific numbers, an Illinois resident’s willingness to experiment paid off handsomely.
The lucky player bought her Powerball ticket for the April 29 drawing at an Ayerco Convenience Center in Carman, Illinois. Rather than letting a machine select her numbers, she did it herself and was handsomely rewarded.
Diana, who did not reveal her last name, matched all five white ball numbers in the April 29 game, winning a cool $1 million.
“I couldn’t believe it — I picked these numbers randomly,” Diana added. “I’ve won smaller prizes before, but this is the first time I’ve won a million dollars.”
The Illinois Lottery has announced that the business that sold the winning ticket would get a $10,000 prize.
Diana told the lottery that she planned to use her riches to buy a new automobile, go on a cruise, and visit Las Vegas.
Powerball drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 9:59 p.m. Central time. To win the jackpot, players must match the five white balls and the golden Powerball, with lower prizes available for fewer matches.
Tickets are available at participating merchants, through the Illinois Lottery’s app, and on its website.
