Missouri American Water customers in Parkville must boil their water Tuesday following a power outage tied to Monday night’s storms.

The advisory applies to customers north of Missouri Highway 45 and near Missouri Route 9. City officials said they have notified affected customers.

The advisory took effect at 9 a.m. Tuesday and will stay in place for 48 hours.

Customers in the affected area should boil any water used for drinking or cooking for at least three minutes before using it. Officials said the water is still safe for bathing, washing and other non-drinking purposes.

Steve Rank, a resident affected by the boil advisory, said the situation could have been much worse.

“We haven’t started boiling yet,” Rank said. “We heard a lot of lighting so if the worst we have to put up with is to boil water to get back on track then it’s not a big inconvenience.”

Parkville officials said residents who are unsure whether they are included in the boil advisory should check their water bill for their provider’s contact information.
