2 people dead after plane hits Akron home

A small plane crashed Thursday afternoon into an Akron home, killing two people and starting a fire.

According to Akron Police Lt. Michael Murphy, the fatalities were on the plane.

FlightAware, which records airplanes, shows that the plane involved in the tragedy took off from Akron Fulton Airport at 2:03 p.m.

Around 3:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to Canterbury Circle after receiving reports of an aircraft colliding with a property.

According to a news release, firemen evacuated two homes as a precaution, and there were no further casualties recorded.

The victims were discovered dead inside the airplane. Their names have not been disclosed.

The Akron Fire Department was on the site and will conduct the investigation.
