Missing Plain City Man Discovered Dead Nearly 2 Weeks After Vehicle Crashes Into Retention Pond

The body of a missing Plain City man was discovered Wednesday in a retention pond after nearly two weeks of searching, according to the police department.

The Plain City Division of Police reported that the search began around 4 a.m. on April 24, when police along Lafayette-Plain City Road discovered evidence of a crash in which a single car lost control and slid into a pond.

Officials reported that they found the vehicle completely submerged in the pond, but it was uninhabited.

In the days that followed, officials claimed dive teams from Marysville’s police and fire departments, as well as the Washington Township Fire Department, continued to search.

At the same time, a missing persons report was made for Charlie Rona Thach, age 26.

Plain City police reported finding a corpse in the lake shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday, and the Pleasant Valley Joint Fire District arrived to undertake a recovery operation. The deceased was recognized by the Madison County Coroner’s Office as Thach. The Montgomery County Medical Examiner’s Office will establish his cause of death.

According to officials, the Washington Township Fire Department Dive Team performed another search but discovered no additional victims.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
