LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville man now faces 20 child pornography charges after an online tip reportedly led investigators to more than 150 suspected illegal images linked to his Google account.
The Kentucky Office of the Attorney General began investigating Jacob Snell, 28, in late April after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Google initially submitted the tip to the agency, reporting that one of its users had allegedly downloaded 172 child pornography files to their account.
Investigators secured a search warrant for the Google account and used the data obtained to identify Snell as the alleged account owner.
The account reportedly contained his name, address, phone number, and photos of himself, along with the child pornography images.
Authorities then issued subpoenas to gather details about Snell’s IP address so they could determine his location.
The information they obtained led them to a home on West Jefferson Street, where Snell reportedly lives.
On Monday, the KYOAG went to Snell’s residence, where he agreed to an interview.
Officials said he acknowledged the Gmail account and confirmed he lived at the home, but he declined to answer questions about the origin of the child pornography images and requested an attorney.
Snell now faces 20 counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor under the age of 12. He is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment Tuesday morning.
