16-year-old boy in critical condition following attempted carjacking

A 16-year-old boy is in critical condition after an attempted carjacking and gunshot in Cleveland on Saturday night, according to the Cleveland Police Department.

Officers responded to six ShotSpotter warnings in the 3800 block of East 131st Street, resulting in over 50 rounds of gunfire.

Officers came to find the vehicle’s owner and another individual involved in the incident.

A preliminary investigation found that four armed suspects, including a 16-year-old child, approached the attempted carjacking victim and attempted to steal his vehicle, according to CPD.

Police stated the victim returned gunfire with the perpetrators before fleeing the area without the owner’s automobile.

While authorities were investigating, they received a report of a person shot in the 4400 block of Lee Road.

Responding officers discovered the 16-year-old with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and arm, as well as the suspect vehicle used in the previous attempted carjacking, Cleveland Police reported.

The teen was transported to the hospital by EMS.

According to police, both the suspect’s and the victim’s cars, as well as two firearms and extra evidence, were found at the shooting scene.

The investigation is underway, and the Fourth District will handle it.
