17-year-old Massachusetts teenager dies in tragic dirt bike accident

A Massachusetts teenager died tragically while doing what he loved the most.

On Tuesday, the West Brookfield Rescue Squad was summoned to Brookfield to provide mutual aid for a patient injured in a dirt bike accident. Because of the nature of the incident and preliminary reports from the scene, LifeFlight was summoned. Brookfield Fire assisted in treating the patient on the site and transporting him to the landing zone. The patient was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

NESC Motocross later announced that 17-year-old Alex Mechachonis died after crashing on the practice circuit at MX Twenty-Three. Alex had been racing since 2022 and had achieved remarkable success, winning three titles in the 2025 NESC Spring Series.

According to a GoFundMe campaign, Mechachonis was a “passionate dirt bike racer, friend, and beloved member of the community.” Alex contributed enthusiasm, generosity, and dedication to everything he did, and his absence is felt deeply by everyone who knew him.

Following discussions, the track reopened on Saturday.

More information about the incident has not yet been disclosed.
