LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Louisville Metro Police Department released body camera footage Friday showing the fatal shooting of a homicide suspect during a gunfire exchange in downtown Louisville.
According to LMPD Deputy Chief Ryan Bates, officers responded at 4:09 p.m. on April 6 to a report that 18-year-old Nathan Walker, a suspect in a recent homicide, was at a Taco Bell on South 1st Street and West Broadway.
Police said Walker was identified as the suspect in a double shooting around 5:30 a.m. on March 20 in the 700 block of East Caldwell Street, where 27-year-old Remon Allen was killed and his twin brother was injured.
The footage shows officers arriving at the restaurant and approaching Walker, who was sitting on a retaining wall behind the building. Sgt. Joshua Arnwine and Officer Arron Sauer pulled up nearby.
As officers approached, Walker pointed a gun at them, prompting an exchange of gunfire. Walker fell to the ground but shortly after sat up and pointed the gun again, leading officers to fire additional shots.
Police said Walker was struck multiple times and died at the scene. Investigators later determined a stolen handgun found in his backpack was used in the March 20 shooting.
LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit is investigating the incident. After completion, the case will be reviewed by the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Kentucky State Police and the Louisville Office of the Inspector General.
The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
Authorities identified the officers as Arron Sauer, Joshua Arnwine, Matthew Forbes, Evan Stovall and Michael Leek.
Department records show all five officers have received multiple commendations for their work, including assisting crime victims and apprehending violent suspects.
Sauer joined LMPD in 2017 and has received more than 40 commendations. Forbes, who joined in 2014 and was rehired in 2022, has at least 12 commendations and one reprimand. Stovall, hired in 2018, has nearly 50 commendations. Leek, who first joined in 2012 and returned in 2024, has received commendations along with prior reprimands.
Arnwine, who joined in 2016, has received multiple commendations but also faced disciplinary actions, including suspensions and reprimands related to reporting procedures, de-escalation and vehicle incidents.
