Louisville man arrested in Columbia on DUI and drug trafficking charges

Columbia, KY (Green River Media) – Columbia Police arrested a Louisville man on DUI and drug trafficking charges following a traffic stop on Friday.

Around 4:26 p.m. CT, officers responded to Burkesville Road after receiving a report of a reckless driver. Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, where they observed an open alcoholic beverage inside, according to a press release.

Officers administered standardized field sobriety tests and searched the vehicle. During the search, they reportedly found more than four ounces of suspected crystal methamphetamine along with drug paraphernalia.

John Reuben Dodson, 47, of Louisville, Kentucky, was arrested at the scene. He faces multiple charges, including possession of marijuana, illegal possession of a legend drug, following another vehicle too closely, careless driving, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance, failure to signal or improper signaling, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, and failure to notify a change of address to the Department of Transportation.

Dodson was taken to the Adair County Regional Jail. Columbia Police Officer Trent Williams made the arrest, with assistance from Officer Elliot Smith and Adair County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Hunter Tweety.

The Columbia Police Department encourages the public to report suspected impaired drivers to the Adair County 911 Dispatch Center.
