JAMBOREE, Ky.  – Authorities have jailed a man on multiple charges after he allegedly tried to kill his wife, claiming she had poisoned his deviled eggs with Tylenol.

WKRC reports that on March 13, officers responded to a call about a man walking around a home with a gun. When they arrived, they found 72-year-old Ronald Wayne Coots standing on the porch with a rifle and bleeding from an arm injury. Initially, he refused to drop the weapon when officers ordered him to, but he eventually complied.

According to WKRC, Coots injured his arm after punching a window. He told investigators he believed his wife, Betty Coots, was attempting to kill him by putting Tylenol in his deviled eggs. He then allegedly stated he “should’ve blew her brains out,” according to an arrest citation obtained by WKRC.

When investigators searched the home, they discovered a bloody handprint on the bathroom door, where Coots had located his wife. Security footage showed him leaving the house with a shotgun while his wife shut the door behind him. He then allegedly aimed the gun at the door and ordered her to open it. Betty Coots then contacted police.

People reports that between the time Betty Coots called police and officers arrived, Coots broke a living room window to get back inside. According to a citation obtained by the outlet, Coots, who was armed, allegedly ordered her to come outside with him “because he didn’t want to kill her inside.”

WKRC reports that officers arrested Coots and charged him with burglary, wanton endangerment, unlawful imprisonment, terroristic threatening, menacing, and having a prescription controlled substance not in a proper container. He was taken to jail after receiving treatment for his arm injury at a hospital.

According to People, Coots is scheduled to appear in court on March 26.
