Severe storms driven by shifting temperatures caused damage across several counties.
BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. (WAVE) — Near the intersection of Ridge Road and Light Lane, a clash between late winter and early spring left a trail of damage in Bullitt County.
Heavy rain and strong winds battered Louisville and Southern Indiana from Sunday night into Monday morning.
“I get winds through here all the time,” Beverley Alvey said. “They smack through here.”
Alvey said she is used to strong winds, but the trees in her front yard usually remain standing. She told WAVE the storm that moved through overnight passed as quickly as it arrived.
“I’m scared to death the wind is just rocking this house. But this time it was just so fast,” Alvey said. “It was over and done.”
Bullitt County crews spent the morning responding to multiple calls about downed trees and power lines, including those on Alvey’s street.
Damage appeared across neighborhoods in Mount Washington.
Fences were knocked over, trees lost limbs or fell entirely, and a light pole was bent in half on Helm Lane.
One home narrowly avoided major damage after a tree fell onto it. The homeowner told WAVE they heard the crash and felt the house shake, but no serious damage occurred.
Similar conditions were reported in Meade County.
“It was definitely a lot of wind here last night,” Mike with the National Weather Service in Louisville said.
The National Weather Service surveyed storm damage across the region following this seasonal shift. Kochasic urged residents to stay prepared for more severe weather in the coming months.
“We still got April and May to go, so be prepared,” he said. “Have a good kit together and make sure you’re ready.”
Back near Ridge Road and Light Lane, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews cleared debris almost as quickly as the storm created it.
“I mean it was really, really fast,” Alvey said. “And then nothing.”
Bullitt County Emergency Management officials advised residents to document any damage and report it to assist with the county’s assessment.
Governor Andy Beshear said no injuries were reported overnight.
