LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Eight people were displaced after a fire broke out at an apartment complex in Norton Commons on Wednesday.

According to Anchorage Middletown Fire spokesperson Salvador Melendez, firefighters responded around 3:49 p.m. to reports of a structure fire in the 11200 block of River Beauty Loop at the Lyric at Norton Commons apartments.

When crews arrived, they saw visible flames coming from a second-story balcony of the brick building.

Firefighters entered the building and confirmed that no one inside needed rescue.

Crews quickly brought the main fire under control after arriving and then worked to extinguish areas where the flames had spread.

Melendez said the second and third floors suffered fire damage. Although the flames did not reach the fourth floor, the level still experienced smoke damage.

In total, five apartment units were affected, leaving eight residents displaced.

One resident of the complex said one of his children was home when the fire started, and he was relieved that everyone made it out safely.

“I was concerned my oldest daughter was at home with the pup and just wanted to make sure everyone was okay,” said Jimmy Hunt. “Also wanted to talk to my wife and make sure she was out of the building. Just wanted to make sure everybody was safe. That’s the important thing. Things can be replaced, people can’t.”

No injuries were reported.

Officials have not yet released the cause of the fire
