LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A community tip and police drone technology helped officers quickly track down and arrest a suspect accused of attempting to break into a storage facility.
According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, officers responded to reports of a masked man riding a bicycle and carrying bolt cutters near a storage facility on Dixie Highway on the morning of March 2.
Police said a concerned community member noticed the suspicious activity and alerted authorities. Within minutes, officers launched a drone to search the area. Although the suspect had already left the scene, officers were able to locate him about a mile away.
Investigators identified the suspect as 37-year-old Christopher Hall. According to an arrest report, Hall was seen attempting to break into the storage facility before fleeing the area.
Drone footage later captured Hall in the parking lot of a nearby Kroger, where officers moved in and detained him.
Police said Hall initially denied trying to break into the facility. While officers were verifying his identity, he allegedly got back on his bicycle and attempted to flee.
After taking him into custody, officers said Hall admitted he had provided false identification because he had outstanding warrants.
Hall now faces charges including fleeing or evading police, giving an officer false identifying information, and four counts of failure to appear.
During his March 3 arraignment, Hall pleaded not guilty. A judge set his bond at $1,000, and he remains in custody at Metro Corrections in downtown Louisville. He is scheduled to return to court on March 11 for a hearing.
Police thanked the community member who reported the suspicious activity, saying public tips combined with modern tools like drones can help officers respond quickly and keep neighborhoods safer.
