An Illinois man who worked two jobs — one with Amazon and another with Uber Eats — to support his family was found dead after completing his final late-night delivery.

According to reports from local ABC affiliate WLS-TV, 28-year-old Daniel Figueroa finished his shift at Amazon on Sunday and then began working a late-night shift as an Uber Eats driver. After he delivered food to Loretto Hospital around 2 a.m. Monday, someone found him unresponsive outside the hospital, and his van was gone.

Authorities transported Figueroa to another hospital, where he later died. Police said they are investigating the case as a homicide.

Although officers have not identified any suspects, they announced Tuesday that they have a person of interest in custody. Local CW affiliate WGN-TV reported that investigators believe two men and a woman may have carjacked Figueroa.

Police told WGN that Figueroa had completed his delivery, and the doctor who placed the order tracked his approach to the hospital. When the doctor went outside to retrieve the food, he found Figueroa lying on the ground.

Surveillance footage reportedly shows Figueroa attempting to stop three people from taking his van. Police said the suspects dragged him for half a block before speeding away.

Figueroa’s father told WGN that the delivery to Loretto Hospital was his son’s final stop of the night. “He was on his way home. This was going to be his last stop,” he said.

Figueroa’s girlfriend, Sandra Guerrero, told WLS that they had planned to celebrate her young son’s birthday on Monday. In a GoFundMe campaign she created to help cover funeral costs and bills, she wrote that Figueroa served as the primary financial provider for her and her son, whom he treated as his own.

Authorities have not yet released Figueroa’s official cause of death. The homicide investigation remains ongoing. Both Loretto Hospital and Uber said they are cooperating with law enforcement.
