LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Residents in west Louisville now have access to a new affordable housing option.
Leaders held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday morning for the newly built PortShaw Place Apartments. The 38-unit complex sits near 39th and West Market streets in the Shawnee neighborhood and offers on-site parking along with 24/7 security monitoring.
“Whatever anyone else’s hopes and dreams are for themselves and their family, they cannot do it if they don’t have a safe quality and affordable place to call home,” Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said during Friday’s ceremony.
When officials first introduced the project, they envisioned it as more than just housing. In July 2024, the city announced that families moving into the complex would receive wraparound services. These services include tutoring for school-aged children or GED preparation, financial literacy education and guidance for transitioning into homeownership.
REBOUND Inc., the Louisville Urban League, Portland Memorial Baptist Church and a $5 million investment from the Louisville Affordable Housing Trust Fund partnered to bring the project to life.
Greenberg also proclaimed Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, as PortShaw Day to mark the grand opening.
