KENTUCKY — School districts across Kentucky have announced a mix of closures, delayed starts, and remote learning days for Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, as communities continue to recover from heavy snow, ice, and bitter cold caused by this month’s winter storm.
In Louisville and Jefferson County, Jefferson County Public Schools confirmed a two-hour delayed start for students. Buses will operate on adjusted schedules, and officials asked families to plan for extra travel time and verify bus route information.
Elsewhere across the state, many districts have opted to close schools entirely for the day. Several systems designated Monday as a non-traditional instruction (NTI) day, requiring students to complete assignments remotely, while others declared a traditional snow day with no instructional expectations.
Districts announcing full closures include Trigg County Schools and Todd County School District, both citing hazardous travel conditions.
Additional closures and schedule changes include:
-
Muhlenberg County Schools — NTI Day
-
Berea Community Schools — Closed, NTI Day
-
Harlan County Schools — Closed Monday
-
Jessamine County Schools — Closed, snow day
-
Numerous smaller districts — Closures or delays statewide
Some schools, including early learning centers and private academies, are choosing short delays instead of full closures.
Officials said decisions are being made based on road conditions, ongoing snow removal efforts, and continued below-freezing temperatures in many areas. Families are encouraged to check directly with their local school districts for the latest updates, as schedules may change if conditions improve.
