BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – As lawmakers in Kentucky consider House Bill 506, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife is urging its passage to establish a pay structure and strengthen penalties for violations.

The bill would allow the department to create competitive salaries statewide and help address ongoing recruitment and retention challenges.

It would also strengthen penalty structures for violations of fish and wildlife laws and address enforcement-related issues.

With the bill in place, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife would be better equipped to fairly compensate staff and improve services for sportsmen and women across the state.

“House Bill 506 is very important actually to our entire agency, but also the sportsmen and women we serve. It helps to ensure we have adequate numbers of game wardens across the state that not only protect and preserve our resources but they answer the call to serve our people. Whether it be a boat accident, a lost hunter, or respond to a natural disaster,” said Col. Jeremy McQueary, director of Law Enforcement with Kentucky Fish and Wildlife.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife and the Kentucky Game Wardens are asking for continued support as they push for the passage of House Bill 506.
