LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A woman was hospitalized Wednesday evening after accidentally shooting herself, Louisville Metro Police reported.
Officers were called to University of Louisville Hospital around 7 p.m. after the woman was brought in with a gunshot wound to her leg, LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said.
Initially, investigators believed the incident occurred on 22nd Street and Osage Avenue, and the victim had reported being robbed and assaulted by two unknown men.
However, Mitchell later clarified just after 10 p.m. that the woman’s injury was caused by an accidental self-inflicted gunshot near National Turnpike. He confirmed that the robbery story was false.
Anyone with information about this incident or other cases is encouraged to call LMPD’s anonymous Crime Tip Line at (502) 574-LMPD (5673).
