Some parents questioned Jefferson County Public Schools’ decision to hold in-person classes Wednesday rather than switching to Non-Traditional Instruction.

Others shared similar concerns on social media.

WDRB asked district officials how the decision was made, even as icy and snowy conditions were present during the morning commute to school.

A JCPS bus was involved in a crash on Interstate 264 West shortly after 7 a.m. JCPS spokesperson Carolyn Callahan said a car slid in front of the bus, leading to the crash. No injuries were reported.

Callahan said the district’s Operations Team closely monitors road conditions and weather forecasts and sends staff out early each morning to drive roads and report back on conditions.

Using that information, Callahan said JCPS chose to run on a normal schedule.

“So far today, we have not seen anything out of the ordinary with accidents,” Callahan said.
