A former broadcast intern for the Battle Creek Battle Jacks is hospitalized after the baseball league said he was shot in Louisville, Kentucky.

Tyler Bright was reportedly shot in the neck during a drive-by shooting at a gas station near the University of Louisville on Jan. 11, according to a social media post shared by the Kalamazoo Growlers.

The league said Bright is currently in the ICU in critical condition and has limited movement in his legs. He was just weeks away from beginning a radio job in Iowa.

Both of Bright’s parents live and work in Michigan, the league said, and are displaced while caring for their son.

Members of the Growlers’ management team who previously worked with Bright described him as “always hard-working and dedicated to becoming a professional in every aspect.”

Bright served as a broadcast intern for the Battle Creek Battle Jacks during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
