Missing Sisters, 16 and 10, Rescued After Allegedly Being Lured on Roblox

Two sisters, ages 16 and 10, who went missing from their home in Nezahualcóyotl, Mexico, have been rescued about 700 miles away after allegedly being lured by a man they met through the online game Roblox.

The girls had been missing for 10 days when police located them at a major bus terminal in Mexico City on Saturday morning. Authorities said the sisters were preparing to board another bus after allegedly returning from Campeche.

Their parents reported them missing after being unable to reach them and discovering security footage showing the girls leaving home with suitcases. Phones belonging to the girls had been turned off, prompting authorities to issue missing persons alerts and launch a nationwide search.

Investigators later learned the sisters had been communicating with a man in Campeche through Roblox’s in-game chat feature. Police initially went to the location where the girls were expected to arrive but came up empty-handed, causing the investigation to stall for several days.

A tip from family members ultimately led officers to the Eastern Bus Terminal in Mexico City, where the girls were found and safely returned to their parents by the State of Mexico Attorney General’s Office.

Police said it has not yet been confirmed who persuaded the girls to leave home. In a statement, authorities noted that preliminary information suggests the sisters left voluntarily, but an investigation is underway to determine whether child traffickers may be using online gaming platforms to target minors.

Roblox, which has more than 111 million users worldwide—about 40% of them minors—allows players to communicate through chat features. Cybercrime experts warn that predators can build trust through games, offer virtual gifts, and later move conversations to other platforms such as Discord.

Authorities are urging parents to monitor online activity, limit screen time, use age-appropriate settings, and supervise children’s interactions while gaming.
